Aquaponics is a 100% natural and organic way to grow plants, fruits and vegetables.

This is due to the very nature of the system and how it performs without the need to chemically alter or manipulate the crops to ensure a bountiful harvest.

Aquaponic Gardens are fully scalable to fit in pretty much any desired space or location.

We’ve seen everything from small indoor living room aquaponic herbal gardens utilizing a typical decorative aquarium type setup

- to – large produce farming operations covering an acre or more.

There are many different types of gardeners or farmers turning to aquaponics for various reasons.

For the average hobbyist and backyard soil gardener, the advantage of using aquaponics is basic. It removes the need to till, weed. or use pesticides to combat soil borne pests.

The more advanced hydroponic farmer appreciates the symbiotic relationship between the fish and the plants eliminating purchases of costly synthetic nutrients to fertilize their crops.

If your new to aquaponic gardening or farming, here is some basic history and the theory behind diy aquaponics.

I imagine you have to be somewhat progressive in your thinking to fully appreciate the completely organic, natural and cyclical relationship that is aquaponics.

Aquaponics systems recycle nearly every element contained within. This is congruent with “all natural organic growing of food” and addressing the more recent and justified concern of crop and fish farm manipulation through the use of hormones, genetic alteration, pesticides and synthetic nutrients.

Many people, focusing on the growing and consumption of the plants, fruits and vegetables using this innovative system tend to overlook the positive advantages of raising healthy fish that can also be harvested and added to their weekly diet.

Different strokes for different folks

Some simply appreciate the serenity and beauty of having more exotic type fish and using this system to grow gorgeous and lush vegetation surrounding a landscaped pond.

While the more utilitarian types find ways to incorporate hardware store bought tubing, used tubs, and makeshift parts to create an aquatic gardening environment that borders on  being an industrial meets organic artform.

Both would agree, when it’s all said and done:

Aquaponics is pretty freakin’ cool!
